Tony Hart dies, aged 83
Tony%20Hart%20dies,%20aged%2083

Former children's TV presenter Tony Hart has died at the age of 83.

The broadcaster, best remembered for hosting art shows Vision On, Take Hart, Hart Beat and Smart Hart, had suffered from health problems for a number of years but passed away peacefully.

In September last year, Hart told a magazine that he was no longer able to draw after suffering two strokes.

Speaking at the time, he explained: "It has been my lifetime passion, but I endeavour to stay cheerful as there is nothing to be done about my condition."

He added: "My aged heart is warmed by the lovely letters and emails I receive, especially when they tell me that my work on television inspired the writers to become artists."

Hart first hit screens on Saturday Special in 1952 after impressing a BBC TV producer with his art skills. He later presented his own shows for a number of years before finally retiring in 2001.

Lost in Space Robot star May dies

Bob May (back left) landed the Robot part because he could fit in the suit

Veteran actor and stuntman Bob May, best known for donning The Robot's suit in the hit 1960s TV show Lost in Space, has died at the age of 69.

May died of congestive heart failure at a hospital in Lancaster, Los Angeles, his daughter Deborah said.

He was particularly fond of his Robot role, once saying he came to consider the suit a "home away from home".

May wore the suit for hours and learned the lines of every actor in the show so he would know when to respond to them.

Loyal sidekick

June Lockhart, who played family matriarch Maureen Robinson in the show, recalled how May had landed the job.

"It was one of those wonderful Hollywood stories. He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see [producer] Irwin Allen about the part.

"Allen said 'If you can fit in the suit, you've got the job'."

Lost in Space was a space-age story about the Robinson family who were on a space mission when they became trapped in space.

The Robot was the Robinson family's loyal sidekick, warning them of approaching disaster at every turn, although May did not provide the voice to the character.

May went on to appear in numerous films with Jerry Lewis and in such TV shows as The Time Tunnel, McHale's Navy and The Red Skelton Show.

He and his wife lost their house in November when a wildfire destroyed their mobile home park in the San Fernando Valley.

RIP the many who have perished in the fires sweeping across  the southern tip of Australia! I do hope that the fires started naturally and not through the evilness of an arsonist.

Very sad to say that many of the fires were lit deliberately, and a very shaken and upset PM Kevin Rudd called them "Mass murderers".  Thankfully Police claim to be getting close to finding them.

R.I.P to the 170+ people who have lost their lives, and also the people who have lost there lives in flooding in North Australia

Just heard and it is now 181 and they are saying that it is probable that there are 250 deaths.

I saw the interview with Kevin Rudd and his reaction was clearly one of upset and shock. I really hope that those responsible are caught and dealth with appropriately.

R.I.P Michael Jackson, King of Pop!

Although I wasn't a fan of him, and did think that he went OTT with surgery and some of the stuff he did, there is no denying how much of an influence he's had on music, from the Jackson Five to his solo career.

RIP Farrah Fawcett, still glamorous and gorgeous even at 60+!

RIP Michael Jackson! I went cold when I heard this this morning and thought it was another one of his weird publicity stunts! My first memories was the Thriller video and even though I was a greebo the album still hit me hard. It was sheer brilliance!

Michael Jackson was a weirdo and very odd and some might even say he was a tad mad but it can never be denied that his musical legacy will never die.

The Internet, apparently especially Twitter and Google came close to crashing! He was , is and I feel will be for many decades to come one of the most popular persons on the planet even coming through the personal, legal and medical issues!

Pugwash's crewmates on the Black Pig included Tom the Cabin Boy

Cartoonist John Ryan, creator of the Captain Pugwash TV series, has died in hospital in Rye, East Sussex, aged 88.

The BBC commissioned the first series in 1957 after spotting potential in Ryan's books about the tales of Pugwash and his nemesis Cut Throat Jake.

His agent, Jane Gregory, said there was "a huge amount of love" for the childish pirate and his shipmates, who included Tom the Cabin Boy and Willy.

Mr Ryan is survived by his wife and three children.
