Me?  I like to play three at the back, with two wing-backs, two lateral midfielders, an attacking midfielder and two strikers, so my formation would be as follows:

I don't think there's much you can do to that team.  The wing-backs work the flanks as well as defending, and the two lateral midfielders consisting of one attacking and one who does both should balance the team out.  I'd consider playing Darren Bent (Charlton) instead of Michael Owen, but I think the formation should suit Owen.

Otherwise, if we're talking 4-4-2, I'd play the following formation:

What about Lampard? He's not as good as Gerrard and they play the same sort of game in the same position. If you want to win, put your best players in their best positions, unfortunately that leaves nowhere for fat frank to go.

Lampard doesn't warrant a place in the England starting XI, and putting him on the wing is utter lunacy.  Gerrard can play there, but I rather he didn't.

Lampard just wastes shots all over the place (the one he was credited with against Greece really shouldn't have been) and can't work alongside Gerrard.  You have to have a balance in the midfield (illustrated in my two lineups) and having two attacking central midfielders without a holding midfielder unbalances it.  Gerrard is the better and has to start.  Lampard can sit and wait until Gerrard's either worked himself into the ground or one of the opposition has taken it upon themselves to injure him.
