Yep. I have only got it for homework but narrowly escaped it 3 times for other things.
First time-Taliking
second time-Talking
third time-Hitting someone who was bullying me.

Wrong there ILHI. I have never had a detention. I wasn't a goody two shoes to say the least but I never far enough to get a detention, what's the point? Hmm waste half an hour or hour sitting behind after school or have some fun after school. Know which I'd rather.
A lot of my mates never have either.

When I was at school I done everything I could to fit in. For some reason I was never a part of the group or whatever. I was an outsider. But I still managed to get the slipper a few times and afterschool detention for things like not having a pen, or unable to answer a particular question or even if you tie was crooked. It was very difficult when I was at school, worst time of my life. But saying that there was no responsibilities to worry about, no financial issues to resolve. So, although it was the worst of my time it was definitely the easiest and less stressful. Today (I know I am going to get a heap of flack!) the kids seem to have longer holidays, more things to do when the homework has finished and the most important thing is that for homework you can get information much easier off the Internet. I am waffling and going off track. Yes I did get detention for stupid things! Don't get me wrong I was ni goody goody as I used to sneak off and have a ciggy with some friends as you do (or did).

Wearing your pants on your head and hitting people with wet celery usually does outcast you a wee bit . Serously, aslong as you have 1 true friend, there is no need for any more.
I had many a detention, suspension, canning, lines, black board cleaning, home visits, but then I hated school and the discipline involved, never left with any qualifications but spent a good few years of my life after school in the Army being disciplined. I think I got the wrong way round some where

To be honest I never had any 'friends' ay school. I always was and am (and I like it this way) a loner. Mind you the pants on head might have had something to do with it I think my trouble was that I was the target for bullies in both the junior and Secondary schools. I had a real hard time. To say if I liked or hated school is difficult. I loved and still do learning new things, books, reading and writing (although it is less writing and more typing). Just could never get on though and left with 3 C's, 3 D's and and E in CSE's and failed both History and Physics O'Levels. Since leaving school I have learnt a lot more. I think as you say Jumbled One military service of any kind would instil the discipline that school lacked and does even more so much discipline.

my school is stupid. if you dont wear uniform, you get a slip, if you get two slips you get a 'school detention', where you have to go and sit in the principles office. also you get a break time detention if you are late three times. after school and break time detention if you forget homework alot or you book. gees, talk about discipline.

I forgot to mention that once you have 3 strikes, you get a red card.

Sorry, but you ought to have been at my school. If you done anything wrong you got detention. If you were caught running in the corridors, late homework, jewelry, perfume, crooked tie, trainers instead of shoes, poor handwriting.
Sorry ,buy you youngsters really think you have it tough! There was a Physics teacher that used to punch students for messing about in the lab, there was a General Science teacher who would smack you round the head for messing about, there was acivics teacher who threw the chalk board rubber at you!
I know this is not allowed now but there was discipline andf any teacher could punish. IMO kids in schools today have it easy. But, when you are at school it is always tough until you leave. Today you get much longer holidays than I used to have, the general atmos is far more relaxed and easy going.

How is your school stupid. What kind of an idiot wouldn't where uniform? And if you're late, you should just get a straight break time loss, not 3 times. And loads of times forgetting your homework and books. At our school, every time you don't have your homework or your book yo get half an hour off our lunch. That's not discipline.

The way I look at school apart from the coursework exams and homework but there is the basis to get people into a routine and an idea of what to expect when you go out to work.
Most places you will work you will have to like it or not wear some kind of uniform or proper dress, ie a shirt ,tie, trousers and possibly a jacket. School instills this kind of thing into the kids. The sense of time keeping and importantly time deadlines, like when your homework has to be done by a certain date. The same in work, your boss gives you a job and it must be done before you go to dinner or finish for the day/shift, failure could lead to far worse than losing some of your break time and/or detention.
ILHI is very correct when saying that you must be an idiot not to wear the proper uniform because in the workplace you could get a warning or if you are on your probationary period you could get sacked.
