Did anyone watch the latest episode? That chair car thing was awesome! Only £2000 and to be released in 2010.

CHIBA, Japan - Toyota’s single-seat electric car resembles a soft cuddly armchair on three wheels and comes with a virtual “friend” programmed inside that learns the driver’s tastes and personality.

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. says its “i-swing,” which can be seen zipping around on a stage at the Tokyo Motor Show, is a car that’s designed to be more than a cold machine, and for use on sidewalks as well as roads.

It can travel on three or two wheels, and its body is made of polyurethane and covered in fabric — to soften the impact if it bumps into people, Toyota says.

Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe came out riding in an i-swing for his presentation to reporters Wednesday at the exhibition, which opens to the public Saturday in Chiba, outside Tokyo.

“We think it’d be fun if a driver and a car can grow together,” says Hideo Miwa, a Toyota designer. “We wanted to treat the car like a living thing.”

Imagine driving around in the i-swing and its artificial intelligence, which will pop up as a mascot character in a display at the driver’s shoulder, will point out a noodle shop that’s sure to match your palate, Miwa said.

The robotics technology in the car will also work to remind you if you’re running late to class, or give you fashion advice.

The i-swing — a “concept car” with no plans for commercial sales — is an upgrade of earlier concept cars designed to help with what Toyota calls “personal mobility,” meant to blend in with pedestrians on the streets.

That’s why the automaker chose soft material for the i-swing’s body, and the ultimate goal would be to make a wearable vehicle, Miwa said.

The front wheel folds back in between the two rear wheels to make the vehicle more upright and take up less room if the driver wants to travel more slowly on sidewalks, but it goes faster on three wheels.

A colorful display in front works more like a screensaver of a personal computer so people can express themselves with images of their choice, according to Toyota.

Oh yeah, there is a city owned by Toyota in Japan!

Do you remember the day you learned that Father Christmas didn't exist?

Well, all of you Top Gear fans out there should prepare to feel like that again...

One of television's best kept secrets -- the identity of Top Gear's test driver The Stig -- has been revealed.

I decided to spoiler this for those of you who don't want to know who the stig is.

The Stig has been revealed as Ben Collins, a 33-year-old former racing car driver and stuntman from Bristol.

Collins commissioned a series of posters of the Stig from a Bristol company last year, and in the course of his dealings with the company apparently revealed his double identity.

Two Bristol newspapers reported the story soon afterwards, but most national papers held back because they did not want to spoil the spirit of the show. But then a major newspaper broke the story on Sunday, and the secret was well and rtuely out of th bag

The BBC and Top Gear have so far refused to comment, but staff at the show are said to be furious.

Collins began his motorsport career driving in Formula First and Formula Vauxhall Junior before rising to Formula 3. He has also appeared in films like latest Bond flick Quantum of Solace as a stunt driver.

He took over from the previous Stig, Perry McCarthy, after McCarthy disclosed his identity in a 2002 autobiography and was subsequently fired.

Based on past history, it seems that a new Stig will have to be found before the show returns to our screens in December. But no, before you ask, it's unlikely that driving around the M25 at 100mph will land you an audition.

The Stig 'portrayed by four drivers'

Top Gear driver The Stig is reportedly played by four different men.

For years the identity of the cult figure, who test drives cars wearing a white suit and a white crash helmet, has remained a mystery.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the iconic figure is actually portrayed by four separate drivers.

"Since the Stig first drove on the show, it has never been practical to have one single driver taking care of all the Stig's many commitments," said a show insider.

"'Look at the pictures of the Stigs from show to show. If you look at the height of Stig in different pictures, that tells its own story."

Earlier this week, a newspaper claimed to have identified Stig as former American speedway driver Ben Collins after he reportedly outed himself.

However, the show insider insisted that people should stop trying to unmask the racer, saying: "We love to have the mystery around who he is. I just wish people would give it a rest, it's like telling people there is no Father Christmas."

A BBC spokesperson said: "We never comment on speculation as to whom or what the Stig is."

Last year, 'Who is the Stig?' was revealed to be one of the most frequently searched internet queries.

Hammond injured in riding accident

Richard Hammond has been injured in a horse riding accident.

According to the Daily Express, the Top Gear host fell from the animal while preparing for the Hayes Golden Button Challenge steeplechase in Tirley, Gloucestershire.

Hammond is said to have picked up minor injuries, but has been spotted on crutches while he makes his recovery.

Competition organiser David Redvers said: "He was looking to hire the horse for the day but it was spooked by something.

"Richard's basically just banged his backside, which means he's a bit sore but he'll be fine. He's very frustrated but he always takes things in good grace and I don't think it will put him off."

Hammond had a brush with death in September 2006 when he was involved in a high-speed dragster crash while filming Top Gear.

Just how many Stigs are there? The hullabaloo over the true identity of Top Gear's The Stigs must have taken even the BBC slightly by surprise!

As for how many there are: it's hardly an industry secret that there's more than one.

Racing drivers have got to make a living somehow, and I shouldn't imagine the good old BBC budget stretches far enough for The Stig to retire from the motorsport scene - not that most of the drivers who wear the white Alpinestars suit for Clarkson and co would want to stop testing, racing and performing stunts.

Revealed: One of Top Gear's Stigs has been identified as former racer Ben Collins

The truth came out after a possible name of one of the drivers was disclosed as Ben Collins, a 33-year-old Bristol-based former American speedway driver and stuntman who doubled for Daniel Craig in the latest James Bond film.

Suspicions were raised that he might not be the only Stig after pictures emerged yesterday showing a separate man the BBC claimed to be the Stig attending the National Television Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on October 29 last year.

This Stig - dressed of course head to toe in racing whites and hiding behind a black visor - drove after the awards to the BBC HQ of Top Gear.

Eyewitnesses told how that Stig entered the studio late at night to change and was soon after pictured emerging from the building in jeans and teeshirt with a distinctive tight-fitting 'Arai' motor-racing woolly hat pulled over the top of his head.

Man behind the mask: The driver, pictured in his racing gear, let slip his big secret in the unlikely setting of an art store in Bristol

With perhaps a hint of irony, the tee-shirt, now available on high streets carried the slogan 'I Am The Stig'.

The man in question went by the name of 'Will'.

The trail heated up yesterday when a Top Gear source offered up another name.

Julian Bailey, a 47 year-old formula one driver who raced with Tyrrell and Lotus teams was also claimed to be currently working as Stig. There is one more unidentified Stig on the loose.

Further possible Stigs are also rumoured to take over when the other drivers' schedules were full.

A source on the show added: 'Look at the pictures of the Stigs from show to show. If you look at the height of Stig in different pictures, that tells its own story.

Need for speed: Ben Collins racing under his real identity

'In some he looks a lot taller than others. People have become obsessed with finding who the Stig is but they have not considered that it is possible that it is more than one person.

'The simple fact of the matter is that there are currently four Stigs who drive on the test track.

'Since the Stig first drove on the show, it has never been practical to have one single driver taking care of all the Stig's many commitments.'

The source added there was frustration at the repeated attempts to identify the mystery driver.

He said: 'We love to have the mystery around who he is. I just wish people would give it a rest, it's like telling people there is no Father Christmas.

‘All the kids that come to meet the Stig they want to believe he is a robot with magnetic knees.'

A BBC spokesman said: ‘We never comment on speculation as to whom or what the Stig is.’

The mystery surrounding the identity of Top Gear's mythical test-driver "The Stig" has been shattered - and it may be more shocking then first thought.

British newspaper The Daily Mail reported the BBC employed eight different drivers to play the legendary character for the popular motoring show.

The new revelations come a week after a report claimed to have unearthed the identity of The Stig as Ben Collins, a Bristol-based former American speedway driver and stuntman.

Further investigations by the newspaper revealed the identity of seven of the eight men believed to play the white-racing-suit clad driver.

The names will make surprising reading for fans:

-Heikki Kovalainen, 27, a Finnish Formula One McLaren driver.
-Chris Goodwin, 41, former GT world championship driver.
-Julian Bailey,47, a former Formula One racing driver.
-English stunt driver Terry Grant.
-Stunt driver Russ Swift.
-Former stuntman Ben Collins.
-Dan Lang, a Swedish snow mobile racing champion.

The eighth driver, who revealed the identities of the numerous Stigs, wished to remain anonymous.

An inside source from Top Gear said The Stig’s multiple identities could be easily spotted if people studied the ever-changing height and build of the character from episode to episode.

"In some he looks a lot taller than others. People have become obsessed with finding who The Stig is but they have not considered that it is possible that it is more than one person.

"The simple fact of the matter is that there are currently a number of Stigs who drive on the test track," he told the Mail.

The source added there was frustration at the repeated attempts to identify the mystery driver.

"We love to have the mystery around who he is. I just wish people would give it a rest, it's like telling people there is no Father Christmas."

A BBC spokesman said: "We never comment on speculation as to whom or what the Stig is."

Well, should have watched it until the end before I posted.

The Stig drove the reasonably priced car around the track. He stalled. Went slowly. missed corners. Went off track. Destroyed a camera and almost killed a cameraman. Smashed the windowscreen. Got lost and went the wrong way.

It was all just a joke. When I first heard about it, I was expectingThe Stig to be wearing a mask under his helmet.

It may still be him. We are just unsure now.

Motormouth Clarkson's new PM insult

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson is at the centre of a new row about insulting the Prime Minister.

He used the c-word to describe Gordon Brown in not-for-broadcast comments during the recording of this week's episode of the motoring show.

It is understood it led to Clarkson - who had to apologise to Mr Brown after calling him a "one-eyed Scottish idiot" earlier this year - being confronted by BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow at the recording.

The pair had a "conversation" after the incident on Wednesday, but she did not ask the presenter to apologise.

According to the Guardian, an eyewitness said Clarkson, 49, was talking about Government policy and said: "The reason you can't do that is because Gordon Brown is a c***."

Several members of the audience reportedly laughed after the comment.

The BBC said in a statement: "Janice went to watch a recording of Top Gear as it is BBC2's top-rated programme, and as controller of BBC2, she holds both the programme and Jeremy in high regard.

"After the recording, she and Jeremy had a discussion about the programme as controllers and presenters often do." The matter has not been referred to the BBC Trust or the director general.

Clarkson attracted widespread criticism after his comments in February about the Prime Minister having one eye.

He told a group of Australian journalists: "In England we have this one-eyed Scottish idiot, the one-eyed Scottish man, he keeps telling us everything's fine and he's saved the world and we know he's lying, but he's smooth at telling us." He was later forced to issue a statement saying: "In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister's personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise."

Jeremy Clarkson is an idiot and an embarrassment to watch.

His knowledge of cars stops at "it goes fast".

How he continues to be allowed to compare this show is beyond me unless he has friends at the BBC.

Richard Hammond crashed his favourite £110,000 car in a pile-up yesterday - but walked away unhurt.

Richard, 39, reportedly ploughed into the back of a Nissan as he approached a roundabout near his home in Over, Gloucs, at lunchtime.

The four-car smash left his beloved Morgan AeroMax with thousands of pounds of damage.

....the BBC has announced that Top Gear will be available in high definition on BBC HD starting on November 15.

Jeremy Clarkson has said there are no plans to stop making Top Gear.

Speaking at the launch of Top Gear's Live World Tour, he said they were having too much fun to consider stopping.

He also said: "We would stop doing Top Gear when we didn't enjoy making it any more, but, at the moment, it is just the most fantastic fun you can have."

The first show is at London's Earl's Court from November 5-8 and tickets are available now if you fancy going.

Look like the chances of another Top Trumps pack is more hopeful than ever? A 2nd pack that is.

Was the 1st pack really good as I could not say.

'Captain Slow' James May crashes airship at 2MPH
We're not quite sure what a caravan attached to an airship has to do with cars, but perhaps the Top Gear crew are running out of 'normal' ways to crash?

Yesterday, while filming a typically ker-azy stunt for the BBC show, James May was lucky to escape unharmed as he crashed a caravan attached to an airship into a field near a busy road. Check out the before and after shots/artist-impression we've compiled below.

He had been racing the bright orange craft against a £100,000 Lamborghini driven by Richard Hammond, when strong winds blew him off course and caused him to crash in the Cambridgeshire field, just off the A428. He had been aiming for a cricket pitch in the village of Eltisley.

After hearing his James May-day calls (hoho) BBC production staff raced to the scene, fearing their star could be injured. They do have a bit of experience with that after all. Fortunately both he and his crew were fine.

Though filming had to be called off for the day, the show, including the crash, is due to air in November.

While this is not the first time a Top Gear host has been involved in an accident, it could be the slowest. Living up to his 'Captain Slow' nickname, it is thought the caravan was only travelling at 2mph when it crash landed.

The airship before the crash...

... and our artist's impression of what happened after the crash. Sorry for the dinosaur -- he got a little over excited.
