Can't say I thought much to the designs at first look, but I think they'll grow on me as I do like the names

At the end of the Second World War Europe was in ruins.
We were bankrupt and Germany was almost anihilated, but we were on the winning side, hoorah!
The future would be brighter and there would be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover.
Today we are in a really serious financial situation, while Germany is the most powerful economy in Europe, rich enough to be called upon to bail out the Euro.
If we were in Germany's shoes could we shoulder such a burden, I doubt it.
Some of the best cars on the road are Mercedes, BMW's and VW's, what have we got, apart from cars and motorcycles from foreign owned companies.
Germany seems to have a strong manufacturing base whereas we seem to be losing ours.
Germany seems strong, we seem to be weak by comparison, why? Why do they seem so much more competent than us.
Are there any lessons we can learn from them, much as that might hurt our pride.
Are we destined always to walk in Germany's shadow, is there something about the British that decrees we will always be runners up!

I just thought I'd mention I have just finished a new You Gov poll on
the election.
I was asked questions on whether I managed to vote or whether I was refused entry (reference to the voting problems); coalition government and my preference on who should lead that; questions on whether I thought the system was fair; and a host of questions on the parties themselves; also questions about whether I voted tactically or not. I don't know who it was for, or when it will be published but I would guess maybe one of the Sunday papers. |

Just been watching Sky News.
Apparently the volunteers trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza are "Pro-Palestinian Activists". Given that "activist" is generally accepted as a "loaded" word, in that it is often used deliberately to convey negative connotations, it's rather disappointing that Sky News have chosen to use that word. It's not just because I am in favour of the volunteers that I am disappointed with this bias! |

The news has already begun to shift from the despicable attack on aid
activists in which 9 innocent people were executed by the Israeli navy.
An Irish aid ship "Rachel Corrie"- named after the young lady who was bulldozed to death by the IDF is making its way to Gaza. ![]() I'd hope the UN would provide a military escort right up to Israeli waters. |

Must admit this took some guts.
Six of the nine activists killed in Monday’s raid on an aid convoy were shot by a single Israeli commando who is now being considered for a medal of valour. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article7144448.ece Israeli reports of the likely award for the soldier — credited with saving his injured comrades. So flunking up an operation which has led to Israel being placed even further in the toilet is to be rewarded by medals - and no doubt the organisers of this operation will get promotion. Welcome to the weird world of Israel - where failure is rewarded! Edited by Medusa - 08 June 2010 at 09:19 |

The Driving Tests are to change again in October.
The main thing is that there will be a new section where you have to drive for about 10 mins on your own without any directions verbally from the examiner, just using roadsigns or written instructions etc. Idea is that when you pass there isn't always someone with you to show the way. Haven't they heard of Sat Nav's? ![]() Be interesting to see what happens if the person takes wrong turn and ends up on a Motorway. Guess they have thought of this. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_188282 Secondly, its rumoured that there will only be 1 reverse task instead of 2. Bloody Sunday Inquiry more like bloody expensive for a place they cannot
even agree on what it's called there was nothing to gain from this, the
victims are never going to get closure.
Suppose it's a drop in the ocean to all the money wasted but it's still a waste, and if the result doesn't go the way some people hoped will there be a call for another one or if the people accused don't like the verdict will they want another one, it could just keep going! |

Cheryl Cole has come down with Malaria.
She was thought to have been suffering from severe exhaustion when she collapsed during a photo shoot but it has been diagnosed as much worse than that. |
