Premier League keeper in road crash

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is in hospital with "possibly life-changing" injuries after crashing his BMW motorbike.

The 36-year-old Spurs star hit a Ford Fiesta at around 10.30am on Thursday at Forest Road, Walthamstow, east London.

He was discovered injured at the scene by emergency services and rushed to an east London hospital for further assessment and treatment.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "London Ambulance Service (LAS), Hems (helicopter emergency medical service) and police attended and discovered the 36-year-old male motorcyclist suffering from injuries described by LAS as possibly life-changing.

The woman driver of the car and a child who was in the car with her did not need hospital treatment.

Roads were closed in the area after the incident which is being investigated by the Chadwell Heath collision investigation unit. No arrests have been made.

A statement on Tottenham's official club website said: "Carlo Cudicini has fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis after being involved in a road accident this morning.

"The 36-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been admitted to hospital and undergone scans under the supervision of club medical staff.

"The club will update supporters on Carlo as soon as there is any further information."

Cudicini joined the club from Chelsea in January. He spent almost 10 years at the west London club after spells at AC Milan and Lazio.

'Coma' man conscious for 23 years

A man injured in a car crash lay paralyzed in a hospital bed for 23 years diagnosed as being in a coma, but was conscious of his ordeal the whole time.

Rom Houben was paralyzed as a result of his accident and had no way of alerting doctors that he was aware of his surroundings and able to hear every word they were saying.

Doctors in Zolder in Belgium carried out a number of tests on Houben, and decided that his consciousness was 'extinct' and he was in a persistent vegetative state.

On every occasion, he was diagnosed incorrectly and Mr Houben was left to suffer in silence for over two decades.

Now 46, Houben said 'I dreamed myself away,' adding that 'I screamed, but there was nothing to hear'.

'I became a witness to my own suffering as doctors and nurses tried to speak with me until they gave up all hope.'

The arrival of new high-tech scanners found that Houben's brain was functioning normally, and therapy has since allowed him to tap out messages on a computer screen and to read books whilst lying down.

'I shall never forget the day when they discovered what was truly wrong with me – it was my second birth,' said Houben, 'All that time I just literally dreamed of a better life. Frustration is too small a word to describe what I felt'.

Mr Houben's case has re-ignited controversy over whether those in a persistent vegetative state should be allowed to die.

Houben is now recovering in a specialist unit near Brussels.

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/11_01/AmandaKnox_468x369.jpg

I think Amanda Knox is guilty based on her behavior and actions but there are serious questions as to what the Italian Police Case is against her.

If Amanda didn’t act like a total loony bird doing cartwheels at the Police Station before questioning, implicating an innocent man, buying lingerie the day after Meredith Kercher was killed and supposedly talking about the great social life she had in store with her boyfriend of a week and basically displaying no emotional outrage if she was totally innocent, I’m now wondering if the Police would have arrested her and charged her for murder.

Honestly, I would have thought she was innocent if none of those things happened as I don’t quite understand what the Italian Police’s exact case is against her. But they did happen.

What I don’t understand is and some of this is based on what I understand of the legal system in the United States which may differ from the Italian legal system and I may be completely wrong, is:

1. Why did Amanda Knox voluntarily go for Police questioning if she was high.

2. Why didn’t Amanda Knox ask to have a lawyer with her, she admitted to watching TV Shows like CSI so I’m sure she’s seen shows like Law and Order, etc., where she knows she can request a lawyer and stop answering questions.

3. If she insists that because she was high nothing she said was accurate, how exactly long could she have been high for? A Marijuana high does not last 14 Hours as far as I know and she must have gotten high I’m guessing at least an hour before she went to the Police Station if not more?

I don’t think the 'OJ Mark Fuhrman' defence worked in the Italian Court. Hopefully the Police can exactly state what their actual case is against her.

Anyway, I still think in my heart that Amanda Knox is guilty. Jail her and throw away the key.

Verdict: Guilty (I hope and life imprisonment too)

I'm over the moon that Amanda Knox got found guilty.

26 years is a very good sentence as for a maximum life imprisonment in Italy is 30 years - don't forget that she did 2 years already.

She will appeal but her only hope is try to reduce her sentence....won't make any difference to me.

My thanks to the 6 laymen and 2 judges for convicting her.Clap

Go Go Hamsters, the number one must have Christmas toy, have been found out by USA Watchdogs to have cancer causing chemicals in the fur and nose of the toy. It is way over the permitted amount. If a child ingests the chemicals by sticking it in their mouth, as children do, they may get cancer. The creators of the toy will refuse to issue a recall as they say they are safe.

Disappointed to hear that Rudy Guede got his sentence reduced from 30 years to 16 years for the murder of Meredith Kercher after Court of Appeal.

I hope that Amanda Knox doesn't get her sentence reduced soon due to this.

Pretty sickening to hear this.

I agree....Shocked the sentence passed at the time is based on the collection of material at the court when heard, these things aren't just thrown together therefore the case heard should be the sentence served and any subsequent information found to have an impact on the case except to prevent a miscarriage of justice should be tendered mid sentence for review. This would sharpen the case evidence in the first instance, reduce court costs and reduce the number of appeals.

So Katie Price got married to Alex Reid, I wonder what the pre-nuptial agreement states?

Hmm, after a thought it could be:

Thou shalt not sell stories about me

Thou shalt not become more popular in the media

Thou shalt not look at any other bimbo, only me

Thou shalt not have an opinion, only agree with mine

Thou will walk in my shadow at all times

Thou will take my criticisms but never criticize me

Thou will never tell me to stop riding lessons

Thou will take third place behind my horses and kids in that order

Thou shalt realise you only got where you are today because of me

Well said Roguishness about his comments made on Kraft.

Peter Mandelson knows that, after all Labour introduced a law making it easier for foreign companies to asset strip the UK.

Meeting probably went along the lines of:

Mandy: Can you hold off any announcement until after the election?
Kraft: Nope

Mandy: Can we offer any incentives?
Kraft: Nope, you're morally and financially bankrupt.

Mandy: Not even a wafer thin mint?
Kraft: They're Nestles. But explain why we should keep a manufacturing plant in the UK when you keep putting up energy costs, introducing anti-business legislation and generally making it much more expensive to do business here? Plus you spend millions telling people our product is bad for them.

Mandy: But we need some good PR, there's an election coming.
Kraft: Tough, anyway, you're not elected. Have a creme egg and sod off.

The country is just a mess, we would always struggle to get out of recession as we dont make anything , so if nobody buys your stuff , how are you supposed to earn money?

New Labour has created a hell hole utopia of mundane jobs, a dumbed down education system and suceeded in flooding the nation with immigrants to do the low paid / poxy jobs so that it can keep god knows how many millions at home on benefits who wont do these jobs.

The place is an absolute basket case. Plus we are the worlds laughing stock cant even control a few pirates Admiral Nelson must be turning in his grave.

Why does there have to be a 25 minute news programme at 6 (or 6.30) and 10 when most (and soon all) people have digital TV and BBC News Channel and Sky News are free to air?

If you've got the web or even listen to a radio, by the time of the main evening news, some of it's 'out of date'.

And given that today's headline story was some randy golfer apologising. That's not news.

How much of the news is actually news of any importance or significance?

Want in depth news? Watch Channel 4 or Newsnight.

Can't agree more. I cannot stand the tabloid dramatisation of the BBC but even more so of ITN - I would go so far as to say I detest ITN and refuse to watch ITV news.

The only news worth watching as stated above is Ch4 and Newsnight. I'd also highly recommend Question Time

Nicholas Winterton - what a scumbag!! How dare he presume that people in standard class are a different breed to himself. He is travelling on our money and has the nerve to insult is with it! If he wants to travel first class he should pay for the upgrade himself. All politicians should travel standard class and pay for an upgrade themselves if they want 'peace and quiet' to work - away from the screaming kids and the smelly common folk!!!!!Angry

Considering we were told that Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi still alive six months after being released on "compassionate grounds" due to him being "at death's door" only to be living it up in luxury SIX MONTHS later is an absolute disgrace.

It is becoming increasingly clear that there are MAJOR LIES involved with the release of al-Megrahi.

Apparently the doctors were paid for by the Libyans! We couldn't do a prisoner exchange as that would be against a written agreement we had with the US regarding keeping him locked up in Britain!

Sick and tired of hearing Peter Mandelson's spin and lies on television again. It's perfectly clear all he's trying to do is re-run the 1997 General Election all over again because he's still throwing out the same rubbish that he did back then.

Conveniently forgetting and ignoring that his own party has been in power for the last 13 years. For somebody who holds a minor role in this government and let's not forget is totally UNelected he gets far too much exposure on tv.

Of course, he was made a "Lord" precisely so he could come back into government and continue to lie and spin so why am I even shocked!

Robert Mugabe backs the Tories!

According to The Guardian today: We have always related better with the Conservatives than Labour said Zimbabwe's president yesterday.

Conservatives are bold, Blair and Brown run away when they see me, but not these fools, they know how to relate to others.

We have a better chance with David Cameron than with Brown.

These fools - talk about being damned with faint praise!

BBC reform needed now.

I've become increasingly concerned of the sheer breadth of radio and television recently, not least from our own publicly funded broadcaster the BBC.

Fear not, I genuinely believe that the BBC is a brilliant organisation and offers programmes of the best quality and others that would be completely ignored in the commercial sector.

But the BBC has too many platforms in television and radio: Radio 1 Xtra, Radio 5 Live Xtra, Radio 6 Music, the Asian Network and Radio 7 need to be scrapped because its content could easily be commissioned on other radio stations.

I think a simple line-up of Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live suits everyone.

For example, stuff from the Asian Network could go onto parts of Radio 1. The BBC should continue to represent minorities but not by providing minorities with its own channel - but by using another well-established platform.

I furthermore don't think that Radio Five Live should have 2 stations, as it has created a monopoly in sports broadcasting that only ended a few months ago. I think Talk Sport, which has gained an excellent reputation despite the ads, should be given a chance to invest in more sport.

As for television, I think the BBC should cut its channels down by half.

BBC One and BBC Two could become of far better quality if it integrated BBC Three and BBC Four's programming.

Some of BBC Four's quite brilliant dramas like 'On Expenses' could be given more commendable slots on BBC Two. And 'Being Human' could be given a new slot on BBC One as its schedule looks bare at times.

And I'd like to see an even more radical reform in television so we only have 5 channels of great quality than hundreds with very mediocre and poor coverage. I think stuff like 24 hours should go to the internet, leaving TV with all the glamourous best.

BBC One - everything with potential mainstream appeal
BBC Two - everything niche from the BBC: sport, lifestyle, documentary, drama, children's
ITV - 75% commercial subsidising 25% regional programming, making it a competitor of the BBC - and also reworking the fondly remembered regional companies that worked so well, and recreating the studios that led to so many good ideas in television.
Channel 4 - part nationalised, incorporating the best of E4's schedule [which will be quite a lot], actually giving E4 "junctions" in the schedule like GMTV was given junctions in the ITV schedule - it would work especially now Big Brother isn't there to prop up C4's schedule.

But what are your thoughts about radio and television reform?
Would it be a good thing, given 24 hour news is probably best on the internet, and the British TV industry has been having a hard time of late being able to create dramas and such?

I see it like this: Too many slices of pizza with not enough toppings makes for the most bland meal. If you turn that on its head, and a few slices of pizzas with lots of great topping - it can be a great meal.

EVERY dog owner in Britain will be forced to fork out up to £600 a year for insurance under new Labour plans to tackle so-called “devil dogs.

This will just end up with dogs thrown out on the streets or the RSPCA taking in more dogs and the low paid people and pensioners will not be able to afford these new plans.

It's only a proposal at present.

It's hard to see it working, but something has to be done.

The problem, as usual, is not dogs but the dangerous and unnattractive breed "Chavicus Aggro Brain Deadis" who think that walking around with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier of the lead is the height of urban cool.

A Today programme reporter this morning interviewed two "dog owners" on the streets of Hackney. Both admitted their dogs were pit bull crosses and hence illegal but maintained they were safe despite being off lead in a built up area. "Ma dog's not violent cos he brought up wiv family an kids pullin his ears en crazy stuff".

And a more typical pair of drongos you'd never find - they sounded like a Paul Whitehouse character.

"I ain gonna lie ya man, if peepahl act scared like, a dog knors and is gahna do like a dog does cos vey knor wen peepahl are scared innit?"

He was asked why he hadn't bought a c**ker spaniel. "Well, it's status man, innit".

It would society a huge favour if both dogs and owners were humanely dispatched.

Fail to pay ... and we may crush your dog!

Oh dear, somebody deleted my comments on Levi Bellfield yesterday. It was just an analysis of evidence and what could happen at the trial.

Thought it was nothing over the top as I tried to be careful what to put here.
