About time we had this
A good opening to the world cup with South Africa 1 - 1 Mexico Unlucky to South Africa. They had quite a few chances and missed them. That 89th minute chance was just so unlucky. He should have scored. |

Referee was outstanding, not bad for a guy from Uzbekistan.
84,000 was the attendance out of 96,000. |

Last time France and Uruguay were in a group together was 2002 and they
were both sent packing in the first round.
I think this could be quite a heated game might give us a chance to see how strict the refs will be when it comes to yellow cards! I hope France lose, the cheats. |

Where was the opening ceremony. I allowed the kids to watch the opening of the World Cup from 2pm to 3pm on the whiteboard in my room but there was no opening ceremony. I was expecting music, flag waving, dancing on the pitch and all that sort of stuff but...... absolutely nothing. Most disappointed. However, good first game and I also hope France get the boot early on. Come on Uruguay!!!

The vuvuzelas is so annoying.
I'm impressed at the stamina of the blowers I have to say. It must be hell if you're sat next to someone with one in the stadium! I'm amazed that the crowd can keep the noise up for so long. If they are, I'm impressed at the lung control! |

Well, South Korea beat Greece 2-0. That surprised me. Greece won the European cup in 2004 as well.

England will not win the World Cup with that performance against the USA, it was simply not good enough.
Any keeper can make a mistake, it's a huge occasion and no doubt he's incredibly nervous. Edited by Medusa - 12 June 2010 at 20:30 |

Well, after that performance, I am not convinced England can win the group stage, let alone the World Cup. How could anyone believe that England didn't drop a single point in their qualifiers after watching that? It was poor and I stopped watching properly shortly after half time.
Well done England. Another poor performance when we need a good one. ![]() |

I couldn't believe myself that Joe Cole didn't play at all, he would have been perfect.

Very poor game, what was it with all the passing back of the ball instead of moving it forward, it was like they didn't want to win the game

Yeah. When there was 5 minutes left, they pass between the defenders and Green!
They probably thought that if they tried to get it forwards, USA will counter attack and score against Green's rubbish saving. |
