They were all given the opportunity to row individually with Sir Steve – the only Briton to have won gold at five consecutive Olympic Games – after finding the winning Golden Card codes in special packs of London 2012 Top Trumps.

Sir Steve is our official ambassador for 2012, and was the face of our national Top Trumps Schools Tournament final earlier this summer. There, he crowned Top Trumps champion Lloyd Horne, with Lloyd taking home not only the trophy but also the chance to join Sir Steve’s boat! The four other youngsters came up trumps thanks to the Golden Card promotion that attracted over 20,000 entries for this unique prize.Fiona Hortopp, Head of Marketing at Winning Moves UK – makers of Top Trumps – says:

“Our golden card promotion in our official London 2012 Top Trumps packs were all about us giving a unique once-in-a-lifetime, money-can’t-buy experience.

“We are delighted Sir Steve Redgrave agreed to be our Top Trumps ambassador this year. He was of course a significant permanent presence and inspiration during the Games and he was an inspiration again today and who knows one or more of these five could be the next generation of Olympians! They certainly felt like that today.”

Sir Steve gave the five youngsters some initial training and tips before taking to the lake at Eton Dorney, scene of this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic triumphs. All five were modelling the new Legends of London 2012 Top Trumps - far more valuable than gold medals, we’re sure you’ll agree.
